FAQs

Braun Series 9 FAQs

What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers?
Rotary shavers are designed to work with cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements on the skin giving perfect control and precision. The foils protect the skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.

Do you have any recommendation on how to shave with an electric foil shaver?
We recommend that you shave before you take a shower. Stretch the skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. At all times, hold the shaver at a right angle (90°) to your skin. Keep the pressure even to achieve the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. To trim sideburns, moustache or beard, Series 9 features an intergrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance. In order to use this comfortable and precise tool, simply slide the trimmer upwards.

How do I clean my shaver?
The new Braun Series 9 cc shavers feature the Braun Automatic Clean&Charge Station, proven to clean more hygienically than tap water. The 5-action Clean&Charge Station: automatically cleans, charges, lubricates, selects cleaning program and dries at the touch of a button for lasting cutting efficiency. All Series 9 shavers are also waterproof up to 5m for full washability.

How often do I need to change the shaver head?
We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months.
To maintain optimal performance, we included a replacement part indicator in the display to ensure that you know when to exchange the cutter parts.

Does the battery have a memory effect as we know it from cell phones or laptops?
No, Series 9 shavers use a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). Li-Ion batteries are therefore the most powerful and long-lasting battery available for Braun shavers.

Where is Series 9 shaver manufactured?
Like all Braun premium shavers, Series 9 is designed, engineered, and manufactured in Germany to ensure the very best build quality and reliability. All of our shavers are designed and tested to last at least 7 years, giving you the peace of mind that you can continue to enjoy the unique Series 9 experience for a very long time.

A classy electric razor

Opinion Summary: This razor is a classy looking razor, which will stand out on any bathroom countertop. However, I find the price tag that accompanies this item to not be worth it. The shave is no better than the lower class Braun Series 790’s, and it is half the price. If it were me, I would spend my money on the lower Braun 790 and get a charging/cleaning station.Below are the categories that I rated the razor on, comparing the new Braun 9293s to the Braun 799cc. As a preface, I was using the product Lectric Shave when using the electric razors.Design:* Appearance wise, the 9293 has it hands down-The chrome plating and rubber texture make it appear as if it is a high end electronic device, which it is. It’s something that would look great on any bathroom counter-It looks much more classy than the 799Shave:* One of the most important things about a razor is a close quick shave* The 9293 does make a quick shave, but is only about 30 seconds quicker than the 799* The shave itself was OK, but was no better than the 799-Personally, I do not think this justifies the higher price point* Using the 9293, I would shave in the morning at 5 AM, and I would have a shadow started on my face by about 12 PM* With the 799 I received similar results* With a standard razor I can usually get to about 3 PMQuickness:* It took me a 1 minute and 28 seconds to shave my face with the 9293- This is fairly quick, and is exactly what I want in the morning* The 799 took approximately 1 minute and 50 seconds-This is not that significant of a difference -Again, I am not sure that the extra twenty seconds saved justifies the higher price pointComfort:* Hands down, the 9293 wins over the 799*The 9293 was easier to hold and left me with no razor burn or discomfort* I also did not receive any cuts, no matter how much I wasn’t paying attention* In comparison, I received one cut using the 799Side Trimmer:* The 9293 has a sideburn trimmer on the rear of the unit, which is easily pushed up with push and slide of a button* The trimmer is curved for some reason instead of straight, which i found odd* The 799 has a trimmer on the front, which is flicked up with a thumb* I prefer the 799 over the 9293-Neither unit outperformed the other, but I found the 9293 somewhat difficult to use-I had to flip the unit over and used a rounded edge instead of the 799’s straight edge* Overall, i kind of find the 9293 side trimmer clumsyNoise:* The 9293 is half the noise of 799* I am not using a meter to check this, just my observations by ear* I much prefer shaving with the 9293 in the morning and so does my wife* It is much quieter and less annoying in the morning hoursCleaning:* The 9293 is easily cleaned by running the unit under a faucet* However, oil must be applied to the cutting foils every week to maintain performance* This also does not sanitize the razor* The unit does not come with a cleaning/sanitization station, which is one of the reasons that I can not recommend this unit over the 799* I prefer to have a cleaning station that cleans and oils my razor for me* The 799 comes with a cleaning station, which makes maintenance a breezeLong & Short Hair:* The 9293 works much better at cutting long and short hair on your face* The 9293 powers through just about anything, where the 799 seems to get bogged down if I tried to shave after a few days of growth* The 9293 had no problem no matter how fast I was shavingMustache:* The 9293 has a very large shaving head* This makes shaving the mustache area very difficult and cumbersome* The 799 has a smaller head and had no problem shaving the mustache area* Overall, I was able to shave my mustache area with the 9293, but it was more difficult than it should have been Chest area:* The 9293 was absolutely horrible on chest hair* If you are planning on using the razor for this, you will probably be disappointed* It works to cut the hair, but it takes a long time* The 799 on the other hand is much easier to use on the chest and is much quickerGroin (The things I do for reviews):* If for some reason you decide to use the 9293 anywhere below the belt, expect to be cut. Enough said* The 799 is much more gentle in this area and will cut you a lot less* I can not recommend the 9293 for this area, you have been warnedIn conclusion, I really like the 9293. However, I can not justify the price of the razor, especially without a cleaning station. Maybe the razor would be outstanding when properly cleaned, but I used it like a normal person would. Overall, my old 799 is on the back shelf because I now have this one. I will continue to use the 9293. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great but messy

I have used the three-headed razors my entire life as can be seen in the picture, but I decided to give the Braun Series 9 9293s Wet&Dry Electric Shaver with Charging Stand a chance. My first impression was that it was not nearly as ergonomic as my old razors, but that didn't seem to matter as this thing works FAST. What used to take 2 minutes now only takes 30 seconds. The shave is close and fast, I couldn't be happier with the results. On the flip side, this thing makes a mess. It doesn't hold the cut hair well, leaving a lot of stubble on whatever is beneath your face. This is not a problem if you are over the sink, but forget trying to shave while walking around the bathroom or in the bedroom.Overall, this is a great product as long as you only shave over the sink. The charging stand gives it a little bit of bling factor that makes it stand out as well. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Functional and Surprisingly convenient

I was not optimistic about an electric shaver due to bad experiences with other brands/manufacturers. That being said, I am pretty fond of this shaver. It doesn't perform exactly as advertised and certainly doesn't give a shave as close as a razor, but it has become part of my standard shaving regimen. I don't get an extremely close shave, especially on the neck with the shaver. However it does allow me to go a couple days in between shaving with a razor. I have found that if I use the shaver for two days and then go to a razor shave it keeps me clean and does not irritate. I would recommend to anyone who doesn't want to take the time to razor shave everyday. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Shaving Essential

I am impressed with this electric razor so far. It is built very well and looks fantastic (it's probably the nicest thing in my bathroom). The feel is substantial, meaning it has some weight to it and it doesn't feel like cheap, thin plastic all over. The front is chrome plastic as well as the cartridge on the top. The back is a textured rubber that makes the razor very easy to hold and keep a good grip, even when it is wet. It has a precision trimmer that slides up that is also covered in the textured rubber. The cutting cartridge has four parts. Two foil type cutters on the top and bottom edges, then two different style cutters in the middle. The motor is high quality and it is obvious as soon as the on button is pressed. It moves the blades much faster than I expected and has a higher, faster pitched sound. It sounds like a stylists hair trimmer on steroids! I charged it as soon as I received it and have not charged it since. My intent is to see how long the battery lasts. So far, it has lasted over two weeks and the speed of the trimmer hasn't changed a bit. As for shaving, it does a fantastic job. Even in the instructions (yes, I read them), it says to shave "against the grain," which I have to do anyway (against the advice of Danny Glover's character in the movie Lethal Weapon), but typically causes some skin irritation. Well, this razor hasn't caused me ANY irritation so far. Seriously, none at all. At the same time, it gives a shave that rivals a nice bladed razor with new blades. It leaves my face feeling nice and smooth and without the red bumps on my neck and jaw caused by too much friction. It came with a charging stand that matches the razor with the same chrome and black scheme. The included power adapter can plug into the charging stand or it can plug directly into the razor itself, which is nice for travel. I keep the razor on the stand even without the charger connected. It works great. It also comes with a nice travel case that is semi-rigid and will prevent the unit from accidentally turning on inside a suitcase or backpack. The case is only large enough for the razor, but battery life is good enough to go without the charger for a week or two. Make sure you look through the entire box because it also comes with a little brush for cleaning. I didn't even see it until I went back to look at the instructions for cleaning tips. Had I not kept the box, I would have thrown away the brush as well. Cleaning is super easy. You just turn the unit on and put the head under running water. You can even use soap! The instructions do say to use a light machine oil on the cutters once a week if you do this often. I haven't tried this yet.Pros:Quality construction and motorShaves very wellNo irritationLong battery lifeLooks fantasticComes with a caseHas a nice charging standCleaning is super easyCharging brick sticks straight out (pro and con) - Allows another adapter (like for a hair dryer) to plug in without being upside down. Cons (I had to get nit picky):Case can't hold the charger (not an issue for most trips, though)Chrome shows fingerprintsCharging brick sticks straight out (pro and con) - Takes up a bit more room when storingThis is a really nice shaver that does a fantastic job. My face and neck are happy! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Converted Shaver

I had tried electric shavers in the past with no luck. I have been using a safety razor for the past decade shaving away in blissful ignorance. Wow! Shaving technology has changed quite a bit since I had last tried an electric shaver. I have been putting the Braun Series 9 shaver through my shaving paces over the past few weeks. It has handled everything I can throw at it with no problems at all.Challenge 1 : The daily.I thought I would start on easy with just using the shaver in between my regular razor. The first day I was hooked. I got a really close shave with no shaving cream or nicks. The whole shave took maybe 1 minute from start to finish. Five stars for the BraunChallenge 2: The WeekenderWith such great results i proceeded to my next challenge. Going the whole weekend without shaving. Monday morning I had a nice growth of hair going so I thought I would be in trouble using the electric. No such problems. I used about a dime-size dollop of shaving cream to get a thin layer of protection. After that I whipped through the shave with great results. No nicks, no pain and no stubble.I have been using the razor now for weeks with no problems at all. I love that I can just rinse it off in the sink and let it dry out. In those weeks I have not even bothered to recharge it. The razor has a fantastic battery life.I love having my Braun. I no longer have to worry about those expensive replacement blades and just what type of handle do I really have. This razor can do it all. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great razor, but cleaning is a chore

If you are a first time electric shaver user, the Braun Series 9 9293s might be for you. The option to use it with foam and water can really help you transition to using a foil razor if you're used to a blade. The rotating/pivoting head helps keep the head at a 90 degree angle to your face which is optimal for shaving with a foil shaver. But...If you are an experienced electric shaver user, the Braun 9293s might be for you. The razor head does a great job of giving a clean and close shave without much effort, even through about 3 days of growth. It makes short work of the shaving I need to do. But...What's the but? The Braun 9293s doesn't come with a cleaning and charging station. Having a cleaning station makes cleaning simple: drop the shaver in, and it'll clean it for you leaving it nice and fresh. Braun even uses a little oil in their cleaning solution so you don't have to oil the shaver. I really don't like having to manually clean a shaver. I find that it's fiddly and time consuming. So if you can live without a cleaning station, this might be the shaver for you. Some impressions of the Braun 9293s is that it's solid. It's a very attractive shaver. The stand that charges the shaver keeps it upright and displays it nicely. The shaver has a good weight but doesn't feel too heavy or cumbersome. At first glance, I thought the size of the head might be a problem. It's big! But after trying it, it maneuvers easily around my face.Overall, I really like the features of the shaver, but would really prefer if the shaver had a cleaning station to make upkeep easy. Great Shave, but I'm Spoiled By the Cleaning Base

I have shaved with electric shavers for many years, with foil shavers being the only ones that agree with my face. I have a Braun series 7 that I currently use, with the cleaning base. Shave wise, this is very closely comparable with my series 7. I did notice that I wouldn't get as many pulled hairs with this shaver, which is a big plus. What sets the two shavers apart however, is the cleaning base that came with my series 7. After each shave I simply place my shaver into it's dock and it is charged and freshly cleaned for the next morning. There is simply no comparing the feel of the clean shaver and the bushed/rinsed series 7.Would I purchase this shaver, definitely yes, but I would splurge a bit and get the cleaning base to go along with it. Great shaver and cool design!

I have been using the Braun Series 9 9293s Wet&Dry Electric Shaver with Charging Stand for a few weeks now and I have to start by saying that I am very impressed. The shaver has a great pivoting radius and shaves very close. I also love the charging stand that it comes with. I have found that it holds the razor well but even though I have it close at hand, I find that the shaver does keep a charge well too, so I am not having to charge it every day. The shaver also offers both dry and wet shaving which not all shavers do, and this was a nice addition to its' features. It's ergonomic design made it comfortable to hold and it also did a great job at gliding over the curves of my face too.All-in-all this is a great shaver and I am so glad that I had a chance to try it! Solid razor that won't disappoint

So, I have given the Braun Series 9 some time before posting this review, and have really come to like this razor. I have tried using it with a few days worth of growth and over a week of growth. Performance: with light growth, this razor is awesome! It is clean, smooth and quick. With longer growth, it works well, but does take more time to shave with. I have used other Braun products as well as Norelco in the past, and am very pleased with this razor. The only downside that I saw was the sideburns trimmer. It is smaller than other razors, and does okay with longer hair, but doesn't cut very close... you will need to follow up with the main razor. Feel: This Braun feels pretty solid. It looks great, so it is a little surprising to feel that it is mostly plastic. However, it is comfortable to hold and nicely weighted. Other: The battery life is great.... can go several days easily, so you could easily take on a vacation trip without having to take the charging cord. This model did not include the cleaning station, but it is very easy to pop apart and clean under water.... can do that in under a minute. Overall: very pleased with this - would recommend as a great daily razor. Braun does make a Series 9 with the cleaning /charging station, so that may be a consideration. Having used other Braun and Norelco razors, this one tops the list. Great to see they are making great razors. Thanks, BzzAgent! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Comfortable, Quiet and Shiny

After a week, I can say the Braun 9293s is quite a good shaver, but not perfect. The shaver head is a bit large as seems to be the current trend, with the cutting area measuring 1.125" x 1.75", making it a bit tricky under the nose, but after adapting my methods it works nicely. I will say, it seems to be more comfort oriented than going for closeness- which isn't a bad thing. Removing the head for cleaning reveals a multitude of blades, small springs, and brackets for each- while that may mean the replacement heads will cost more, it also limits moving parts and may translate to a better experience since everything is built in and can be replaced as needed. The unit is charged via a nice hefty charging stand which is included, and is as shiny as the shaver. Battery life has been excellent. I've used it about every day for a week, and am still at full bars so this would make an excellent shaver for traveling. The included protective travel case is very nice as well, not just a pouch. Also, the battery charge bar meter works great. So what don't I like about it? The shiny plastic along the outside grip, is just that. Perhaps if it was a bit harder plastic or some type of metal, it'd feel more luxurious. Also, although I have XL hands, my thumb naturally rests on the tilt lock which I rarely use, and although just a gripe it'd be nicer if the power button was there or very near by.Overall, the shaver is very comfortable, leaves a great shave, and is quiet for such good performance. 4 Stars.
