FAQs

Braun Series 9 FAQs

What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers?
Rotary shavers are designed to work with cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements on the skin giving perfect control and precision. The foils protect the skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.

Do you have any recommendation on how to shave with an electric foil shaver?
We recommend that you shave before you take a shower. Stretch the skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. At all times, hold the shaver at a right angle (90°) to your skin. Keep the pressure even to achieve the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. To trim sideburns, moustache or beard, Series 9 features an intergrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance. In order to use this comfortable and precise tool, simply slide the trimmer upwards.

How do I clean my shaver?
The new Braun Series 9 cc shavers feature the Braun Automatic Clean&Charge Station, proven to clean more hygienically than tap water. The 5-action Clean&Charge Station: automatically cleans, charges, lubricates, selects cleaning program and dries at the touch of a button for lasting cutting efficiency. All Series 9 shavers are also waterproof up to 5m for full washability.

How often do I need to change the shaver head?
We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months.
To maintain optimal performance, we included a replacement part indicator in the display to ensure that you know when to exchange the cutter parts.

Does the battery have a memory effect as we know it from cell phones or laptops?
No, Series 9 shavers use a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). Li-Ion batteries are therefore the most powerful and long-lasting battery available for Braun shavers.

Where is Series 9 shaver manufactured?
Like all Braun premium shavers, Series 9 is designed, engineered, and manufactured in Germany to ensure the very best build quality and reliability. All of our shavers are designed and tested to last at least 7 years, giving you the peace of mind that you can continue to enjoy the unique Series 9 experience for a very long time.

A cut about the rest

I have used quite a few electric shavers in my time. Some that I purchased myself, one that was given as a gift and even 2 that were given to me to "beta" test. I have tried wet shavers and dry shavers, rotary and foil (similar to this one) but this one is a cut above the rest (Pun intended). I always end up back to my trusty 3-blade stick razor. The problem is the way the hair grows on my lower neck. I had no issues with any other electric shaver on my face but they all failed on my neck. I would always need to stretch the skin as much as possible and put a lot of pressure to finally get it to cut. This led to skin irritation and was a deal breaker for me. So, I decided to give the Braun Series 9 a try. I'm not sure how it does it but I have had no issues using this on my face or neck. I am excited to say that I have finally found the perfect electric shaver for my face! The quality of the shaver is top notch as well. Its design and ease-of-use are exactly how it should be. I like that I can open it up and quickly rinse it under the sink after the shave. I am thoroughly impressed with this little machine and I would definitely recommend this to anyone and everyone searching for the best electric shaver. Well done Braun, well done. Shaving Essential

I am impressed with this electric razor so far. It is built very well and looks fantastic (it's probably the nicest thing in my bathroom). The feel is substantial, meaning it has some weight to it and it doesn't feel like cheap, thin plastic all over. The front is chrome plastic as well as the cartridge on the top. The back is a textured rubber that makes the razor very easy to hold and keep a good grip, even when it is wet. It has a precision trimmer that slides up that is also covered in the textured rubber. The cutting cartridge has four parts. Two foil type cutters on the top and bottom edges, then two different style cutters in the middle. The motor is high quality and it is obvious as soon as the on button is pressed. It moves the blades much faster than I expected and has a higher, faster pitched sound. It sounds like a stylists hair trimmer on steroids! I charged it as soon as I received it and have not charged it since. My intent is to see how long the battery lasts. So far, it has lasted over two weeks and the speed of the trimmer hasn't changed a bit. As for shaving, it does a fantastic job. Even in the instructions (yes, I read them), it says to shave "against the grain," which I have to do anyway (against the advice of Danny Glover's character in the movie Lethal Weapon), but typically causes some skin irritation. Well, this razor hasn't caused me ANY irritation so far. Seriously, none at all. At the same time, it gives a shave that rivals a nice bladed razor with new blades. It leaves my face feeling nice and smooth and without the red bumps on my neck and jaw caused by too much friction. It came with a charging stand that matches the razor with the same chrome and black scheme. The included power adapter can plug into the charging stand or it can plug directly into the razor itself, which is nice for travel. I keep the razor on the stand even without the charger connected. It works great. It also comes with a nice travel case that is semi-rigid and will prevent the unit from accidentally turning on inside a suitcase or backpack. The case is only large enough for the razor, but battery life is good enough to go without the charger for a week or two. Make sure you look through the entire box because it also comes with a little brush for cleaning. I didn't even see it until I went back to look at the instructions for cleaning tips. Had I not kept the box, I would have thrown away the brush as well. Cleaning is super easy. You just turn the unit on and put the head under running water. You can even use soap! The instructions do say to use a light machine oil on the cutters once a week if you do this often. I haven't tried this yet.Pros:Quality construction and motorShaves very wellNo irritationLong battery lifeLooks fantasticComes with a caseHas a nice charging standCleaning is super easyCharging brick sticks straight out (pro and con) - Allows another adapter (like for a hair dryer) to plug in without being upside down. Cons (I had to get nit picky):Case can't hold the charger (not an issue for most trips, though)Chrome shows fingerprintsCharging brick sticks straight out (pro and con) - Takes up a bit more room when storingThis is a really nice shaver that does a fantastic job. My face and neck are happy! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Braun's Best yet

Let me start by saying I have been using electric razors for years, always some form of Braun with the foil instead of the round disks. Previously I have been using a Series 7 so I will base my comparison of this Series 9 9293s versus that. Size and shape are very similar between the series 7 and the series 9. Only two major differences that i can tell. First major difference is that the series 9 has a wider shaving surface and an extra blade section (supposedly to raise stubble). The second major difference is the sideburn trimmer. On the series 7 the trimmer is wider and is located on the front. On the Series 9 its pretty narrow and located on the back of the razor. While both are awkward to use the series 7 trimmer actually does a better job. While both will work in a pinch, I have a goatee and could not be using this trimmer to shape it properly (an additional beard trimming razor is what i use and recommend)As for the function of the Series 9, its probably the best razor Braun has come out with yet. Charge time is relatively quick and will work way longer than you will need it to complete a shave. I use pre-shave lotion, but have not tried to use an actual shaving cream or gel as this razor claims can be used with it. I found it only took a few passes to remove 2 to 3 days worth of stubble, with very minimal tugging or pulling. Again I have a goatee so i can not say how well it works on the mustache area. The head does lock if you want it to stay in a locked position, however excessive force will cause the lock to fail and the head to tilt.In conclusion why only 4 out of 5 stars? I had to take away at least one star for inadequate side burn trimmer, as well as this unit does not including a clean and charge stand. Unfortunately the series 9 will NOT fit into the series 7 clean and charge stand. Without the stand and special CCR formula the razor will be prone to rust and the ill effects of rinsing under water instead of their lubricating cleansing formula. Other notes - I found the charging stand to be pretty useless, yes it will keep the razor standing up and charging , but you can take the same cord and plug it directly into the razor and lay the razor down flat. Also the razor came with a travel case, however there is no place within the case for the cord or the charging stand. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Sleek, Stylish, & Smooth

I'm writing this as an extremely satisfied and clean cut individual. Prior to this chrome beauty, I used an electric base model Philips Norelco. Nothing against the Norelco, it just took multiple tries and left burn marks on my neck. This is one thing I absolutely love about the Braun, no razor bumps or burn marks. I also didn't find the need to go over the same spots on my face over and over. The head of the shaver swivels to the contour of my face as well. The neck moves vertically, unlike most razors where the blades only move. This is really important when it comes to around the jaw line and on the neck. There is a fine electric trimming razor on the back side of the shaver. The use of it is good for trimming hair off of your lip or lining up your face hair. It's so so and not that sharp, so the cut isn't as fine as I'd like. There are two options for use with the Braun. There is a wet or dry option depending on where you are using it. I used it both in the shower and by the sink, both were successful. I found the shave in the shower a little bit cleaner, but that was probably because of the hot water. I wouldn't choose one option over the other, it's the same. The packaging was standard, the charging base is awesome, the comb and carry case was a huge win! Cleanup was a synch and not messy. The blades pull right off and clean easy, no gunking up. Charging was quick and is holding strong 2 weeks later. I 100% recommend this razor to anyone and everyone seeking a nice, quick, and clean shave. Good job Braun! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Braun Series 9 9293s Wet&Dry Electric Shaver with Charging Stand

First thing I noticed right when I took it out of the box was the sleek and modern design. While that may not help it shave any better, it looks nice on the charging stand on my sink. Now the important part, how well does it shave? It does an outstanding job. For the last 6 years I had been using a different brand rotary shaver which did a marginal job at best. I really didn't know that an electric razor had the capability to provide a close shave similar to a razor. I also tested it with 1 day growth against 1 week growth and it did a great job with both. I am in the military so believe me when I say that I require a close clean shave everyday. Additionally, the travel case provided was a welcomed addition to the package. The only other thing I would like to have with a razor which this model didn't offer was a cleaning station. Overall, I would gladly recommend this razor to any of my friends or family. Braun Series 9 9293s Wet Dry Shaver

I have been using electric shavers for the last 15 years. During that time I have tried diferent brands, both foil and rotary shavers. My most recent being a top of the line rotary, before that was the Braun Series 7.So, how does the Series 9 compare to my last 2 razors? It's the best electric shaver I have ever used. It give the fast clean shave, 1 or 2 passes and it takes care all of my stuble, even under my chin and the neck area. It's gental enough were I can use it evey day without any irritation, I cannot say the same with previous razors, I would always have to wait 2 or 3 days between shaves. I tried the Series 9 both wet and dry, it does a great job wet but I prefer a dry shave. With my beard, I get a closer shave when using the shaver dry .The shaver cleans easily under the faucet with soap and hot water. It comes with a charging stand and a very high quality travel case. The only negative I have about the razor is the shiny chrome plastic of the razor, it tends to show finger prints and water marks but they can be easily wiped away.In all, if you are in the market for a new shaver the Braun Series 9 is the shaver to get. What an awesome Shaver!

I’ve reviewed razors like this before and was never impressed. So my thoughts going in were that I would be underwhelmed with the performance of the razor, and boy was I wrong! The last I reviewed that was the same style as this was loud, with very poor shaving performance. This one could replace my other branded rotary razor that is my daily driver!!Unit arrived in a retail box, with the razor, charging base, charge cord, carrying case and little clean brush. The box opens a little weird, not like a standard box, but once inside its nicely packaged and well protected to ensure you get in perfect condition. The box lists its major features and shows product pictures.I pulled the razor from the case, plugged the cord into the base and put the razor on the base. It started charging and I honestly didn’t watch it to see how long the initial charge took. The next morning, I grabbed the razor and turned it on to shave, I was shocked at how much louder than my normal razor it was it. It didn’t wake wife (bathroom door was shut) but it was noticeably louder than my normal razor. The shave was very smooth with no discomfort and my skin was much smoother than normal when finished. It seemed to shave slightly quicker as well. I’ve never been a “shower shaver” and I haven’t used in in the shower, even though it says you can. I don’t see myself trying this feature, however, if the kids knock it into the sunk (or worse!) I know it will survive to live another day.The head of the unit has two modes; it can lock and stay in place or “float” and conture to your face as you move your hand. I found it seemed to work better in the “locked” position, and I think the lock will break over time. It doesn’t seem to be strong enough to stay in the position you set it in. The unit has a “lock” mode for travel as well. If you hold the power 3 seconds it will beep/flash and the power button can’t be bumped to turn it it. Hold it for three seconds again, it will beep/flash and then you can use the power button normally. This way it won’t be dead when you reach your travel destination. Speaking of traveling, at this point I see no issue of leaving the charger at home when you travel. Charge it up when you leave and you’re good to go. So far I’m running three weeks on the initial charge!!+Shave Performance+Battery Life+Appearance+Power Lockout+Case and cleaning brush-Must use the base to charge, can’t plug it in to the razor-Flimsy head lock, I think it will break-Noise, louder than expected [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Best Electric Shave to Date

I am not a traditional shaver because of my crazy beard. My beard literally grows different directions with a few swirls for fun. I have used disposable, safety and electric razors. I have to say this is the best electric shave I have experienced thus far. I gave my skin time to adjust and i have to give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. The only drawback is this is not as close as a straight razor shave but as close as you are going to get.The first shave it took numerous swipes from different angels and I saw a few random hairs that did not get cut. After 3 weeks of every other day shaving i can easily have a clean shave with no random hairs in 5 minutes or less. I went with the dry prior to showering recommendation and this has worked perfect. This electric razor is extremely convenient, now I am curious to see how long the current blade lasts. Again very satisfied and the 4 out of 5 stars is only because the shave it not as close as a straight razor which is hard to compare. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

A new look on shaving...

This is my second Braun wet and dry electric shaver. Right off the bat, I love the aesthetics of this series 9 a lot more. I'm also a huge fan of how quiet these shavers are. This series 9 performs as well as I was hoping. It rotates and bends really nicely around my neck, chin and jaw area and provides a really close shave. I've been impressed using it for over a week now. I'll never be one to use an electric razor in the shower - but I have used it while my face was damp and still was very pleased with its performance. I definitely will recommend this shaver! It's now officially replaced my old Braun wet and dry shaver. Very happy. :-) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

A premium shaver with stellar battery life.

Braun's Series 9 electric shavers are known to be the best of the best. Made with high quality components in Germany, the Series 9 is the highest end of shavers that Braun offers. Covered in shiny chrome, sporting an LCD display and with a reassuring heft, the Series 9 9293s most definitely feels the part. The shaving head houses four separate cutting foils with different shapes, and is mounted on a swivel which allows the head to follow the curves of your face and jaw line quite well. This swivel action can be locked in place by using the large thumb slider on the unit. Below the slider sits the power button and LCD display which shows the units current battery level. The back of the shaver houses a pop-out trimmer which slides up and down neatly. The 9293s also ships with a zippered carry case, cleaning brush and charging station. In use, the Braun was able to power through daily beard growth with ease for the most part, only struggling with hair on the neck. These hairs remained frustratingly stubborn and required multiple passes to finally trim. When confronted with two or three day growth the shaver continued to have good performance on most of the face, however the neckline became increasingly more difficult to deal with. While the 9293s is capable of wet shaving as well as dry, I find that shaving wet is far less convenient. Clean-up is a breeze and fairly straight forward. The cutting head pops off after pressing the buttons on either side and it's simply a matter of tapping it against the sink to remove the cut hairs. Braun recommends replacing the cutting head every 18 months or so. Battery life has been excellent, with the shaver lasting more than a week on a single charge for me. Overall, the Braun Series 9 9293s is a fantastic shaver for those who need something fast and efficient and shave every morning, or for travelers who can get an entire trip out of one charge without having to carry a separate charger. However, those who often wait three or more days in between shaves may run in to trouble on their neckline. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
